Online Hebrew Course

I recently decided to continue my Biblical Hebrew studies through the Israel Institute. Collaborating with the University of Jerusalem, they offer online courses in Biblical languages, Biblical studies, and more! They have both degree- and non-degree options. My class is so informative. The class sizes are small, and the homework is well organized in a workbook and a book with notes and teachings for each lesson. When I finish their Hebrew courses, I intend to get started on Greek and maybe even add some of the Biblical studies now that I know how high quality their courses are.

Handbook of Biblical Hebrew by William Sanford LaSor

Not for the faint of heart, this old school textbook will quickly teach Biblical Hebrew to the diligent student. It starts at beginner level but progresses rapidly, using the book of Esther as a blueprint. LaSor’s method is inductive so the student learns by navigating through the book of Esther, starting lesson 1 at Esther 1:1, and gaining understanding until the last chapter.

Hebrew for Christians Website

This extensive site has been so helpful on my quest to learn the Hebrew language. It’s a great place to start but also an invaluable resources for those more advanced in their studies. It also teaches Christians about Jewish prayers and traditions and their relevance to our faith.

This is a Biblical Hebrew textbook that I’ve used both for myself and for my older children. It starts at the very beginning but moves quickly for the dedicated Hebrew student. It uses a deductive method, starting with mastery of the Hebrew alphabet and progressing more specifically from there.

EKS Publishing

The EKS Publishing online store has many resources for the Hebrew student. My favorites are the Hebrew Alphabet Chart and the bilingual Bible Story Books.

My children love workbooks. This is the precursor to the one below it as it starts at a beginner level. I’ve used this book for children as young as 6 years old.

Biblical Hebrew 2, Complete Set

This is the sequel to the workbook above. This workbook is for older children.
